Sharp PW-AT750

Sharp PW-AT750I just received my test copy of Sharp’s new PW-AT750.

It has several nice new features not found in most other dictionaries. For one, like the Canon V80, V90 and G90 you can draw unknown kanji, but even better than the Canons (I think), it has a small square on the keyboard for drawing which means the screen is clear. The Canon models all are a little hazy because of the special sensitive film they use. (At least I think that is why the screens are a bit hazy)

Also this model has tons of interactive quizzes that allow you to save your scores and chart your progress. I hope to make a video demonstrating this soon.

Like most Sharps, 1) the screen looks, well, Sharp, 2) there are tons of E-Books and small (but addictive) dictionaries. This dictionary sports an impressive 100 contents. It includes many, many e-books on easy to mix up kanji and Japanese words. This is nice, but almost useless to a beginner. The Upper Intermediate and Advanced student should be thrilled, however. The only main drawback with this (and really all Sharps) is it has a mediocre E-J and J-E. It uses the standard Genius E-J and J-E which is decent, but tiny compared to the monstrous Kenkyusha found in the Canon G70, Seiko SR-E10000 and G10000.

I will play with it this weekend and hopefully begin posting some reviews and videos soon…
