アリが父ちゃん #1!
You can’t imagine how pleased I was when looking over the stats I discovered yet another Google search phrase where 1nichi1kai.com is #1 (at least at this moment) .
This is the highly prized アリが父ちゃん search phrase. Yes, ‘An ant is my father’ in Japanese leads people directly here. Or actually directly here.
* Actually, looking at that post, I guess I never explained the joke. Here it is expanded and revised:
Neat Crayon Shin-chan pun break: アリが父ちゃん、ハエが母ちゃん
アリが父ちゃん、ハエが母ちゃん
ari ga tou chan, hae ga kaa chan
An ant is daddy, a fly my mommy
…Doesn’t exactly make you Bwah Ha Ha in English. The word play is with ありがとう arigatou - thank you. So instead of stopping, Shinchan adds the ‘chan’ making it into ‘an ant is my daddy’. He then has to follow up by explaining what his mommy is.
アリ ari ant
が ga subject marker
父ちゃん touchan daddy (of course, you should use 父さん when referring to your father)
ハエ hae fly
母ちゃん kaachan mommy
This word play reminds me of Groucho. “Outside a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside a dog, it is too dark to read.”
