Japanese Graded Readers

Graded Readers Vol 1

Japanese Graded Readers

This is a new product for us. To begin with I only stocked five copies of each of the four volumes just to test the waters. They sold out quickly. I just got a new shipment in last night and already we have moved at least 13 books! It’s kind of rare for a new item to do so well off the bat.

But these are really nice books. Each volume is actually a set of 5 mini-books and the stories are carefully chosen based on four levels of Japanese proficiency:

Beginner   Upper Beginner Pre-Intermediate Intermediate
Around a350 Word Vocabulary; Each story has 400-1,500 characters   Around a 500 Word Vocabulary; Each story has 1,500-2,500 characters Around a 800 Word Vocabulary; Each story has 2,500-5,000 characters Around a 1300 Word Vocabulary; Each story has 5,000-10,000 characters

(I just copied the code from the beginner’s product page. That’s why the Beginner column is highlighted)

Each set comes with a CD for listening while reading. It isn’t a bilingual reader so you will need a dictionary - which is probably the best way to do it anyway.

If you’ve used these books, I’d like to hear your opinion of them. There aren’t many quality readers for Beginner-Intermediate level out there so it is nice to find these!

Oh, I forgot to mention:  Our Super Suiyoubi Special (today only) is for Beyond Polite Japanese which is a dictionary of Japanese slang.  Not only that but this whole week we are offering a 5% off EVERYTHING.  (When you go to checkout, you will see the automatic discount.)

  1. I bought the beginner set today. I just thought I would say that seeing as I was considering buying them.

Anyway, where should I put my opinion of these books once I have one?

  2. You could write it here and/or on the product page at TJS. That may be helpful for others interested in it.

I hope you will enjoy it!

  3. I’ve been waiting for pay day! I’ve had this in my cart along with some genki workbooks for a while now. I’m a bit hesitant to buy because my job has been unstable lately, but I think I will do it with this 5% off sale.

  4. Hi Carlie,

If you want to wait, I can still give you the 5% off when you are ready. I certainly don’t want it to hurt you financially. If you would like to do that, just give me an email.
