PlaySay Audio Download Product

I wrote this for TheJapanshop.com’s January newsletter, but I thought it would be nice here too.
I was recently contacted by a company called PlaySay. They make MP3 files for studying for the JLPT vocabulary section. Each vocabulary word is spoken in English in one ear and Japanese in the other. The voices sound professional and [...]

日本語の難しさ

I found a fantastic Youtuber with the super secret nickname of Kemushichan. Outside of the super secret spy nickname world that is Youtube, Loretta is the name of this amazing 19 year old (according to her Youtube profile). She speaks English, Japanese and Mandarin. I cannot vouch for her Mandarin, but her [...]

Youtube Over 900 Subscribers!!

In a blatant attempt to hide my embarrassment over my last post (CIS/CSI–see comments there), I’m posting this to push the previous post into blog oblivion. That, and to say…
Good news!
We are now over 900 (903) today.

Now if that wasn’t enough to distract you from the previous post, here is my dog [...]

INS, CIS and Other Acronyms

Yesterday Yumi and I made a trip to the INS (Immigration and Naturalization Services) office to check on a question we had about her Green Card. Normally, I’d file any discussion on the INS under イライラ—the ‘what was he thinking?’ files, but I have to say it was very pleasant.
Years ago INS changed its [...]

Youtube Almost 900 subscribers!

As I type, our Youtube account has 896 subscribers! Just four more before 900. Then only a hundred more after that to add a digit. Are there perhaps four plus a hundred readers who have a Youtube account?
I haven’t added a video since going to Orlando a month ago. As [...]

Sparrow’s School Song: 雀の学校

I received an email on Friday asking if I knew of a song that started like this:
Chi Chi Pa Pa, Teruteru Bozu, Kisha Kisha Pon Pon, Yuu yake ko ya ke de
Well, I hadn’t, but Yumi knew a similar (same?) song and here it is:

Naan!

I’ve been a bit lazy. Sorry.
But I’ve also been a bit busy… busy making Naan and Navratan curry. If you have had good Indian food*, I am sure you’ve had some Naan Bread. Navratan curry is a vegetable curry that is just delicious.
I found this lady on Youtube (and promptly subscribed). [...]

A New Fun Word Book

Yesterday, I got in a new book on William F. Buckley Jr.’s use of the English language: Buckley: The Right Word. Compiled by the editor of many of Buckley’s books Samuel S. Vaughan, it examines letters, articles and passages from his books strictly from a linguistic point of view. His use of unusual (but [...]

Got my Zoom H2 in!

As I mentioned here, I ordered an audio recorder last week. I decided on the cheapest good quality machine: the Zoom H2 for only $188. With it, I ordered a 4 gig SD card (about $25). Both came in today.
