Makoto, the Dogs, and Barking in General

At dusk a few days back, the dogs were barking with (at) the neighbor dog.  Usually when it starts to get dark the dogs (and the two-year-old boy) get excited for some reason; perhaps they realize it is the day’s last hurrah before bed.

So they were barking.  Yumi called them in with an 「おかし!」 (okashi - treats, snack…).  The two dogs came a-running.  I was still outside enjoying the newfound quiet when I heard a, “wan wan!”  Turns out Makoto had taken the dogs place at the fence and was barking at the neighbor’s dog.
